Oktoberfest – Evening Festivities

For months we’ve heard that the Wilmette Oktoberfest was an event that could not be missed. Reality lived up to the hype. People from all across Wilmette converged on the adult portion of the day-long Oktoberfest celebration held at St. Joseph’s School and Church. (See previous post for a recap of day activities.)

The evening started at a neighbor’s in South Central for a pre-party event. We then walked to the Oktoberfest, met more friends and had a plate full of Oktoberfest favorites like brats, spätzle, German potato salad and lots of beer.

Then the party started. The entertainment was kicked off by a leather-pants-wearing parishioner of St. Joe’s who introduced the band – Libido Funk Circus. Neighbors and extended neighbors from across the village danced the night way to tunes like Get Down Tonight (KC and the Sunshine Band), Shook Me All Night Long (AC/DC) and Grease soundtracks.

One lesson learned – don’t leave the dance floor abruptly. For as we learned you will be forced back on the dance floor by a St. Pauly Girl lookalike. For the record, I was one of the first people on the floor.
