South Central Tailgate

I’ve always been a guy to bring different groups of people together for a good time. For the start of this year’s football season, I decided to have a tailgate in my backyard. I had people from work, past colleagues, grad school friends, my niece and nephew from Ohio, neighbors and former interns show up for a fine morning and […]

Sprinkler

I stepped on the sprinkler Thursday night while rolling it into the hose winder-upper and holder. It cracked. Good thing it rained the last few days or the flowers would have been in trouble.

Block Party Postponed

As my loyal readers know, we were on vacation last year during the South Central summer block party. So this year we were very much anticipating the 2008 edition. Especially since there was going to be a cupcake recipe contest, in addition to the BBQ rib cook-off. Bad news, though. The summer block party has been postponed until early September. […]

Snow, Potholes and Black Ice

To my loyal readers, I apology I haven’t posted any thoughts for more than two months. It has been a crazy winter, but now that it is March we are looking forward to the cul-de-sac springtime buzz that’s around the corner. We did have a few exciting times after Christmas, including the Men of the Cul-De-Sac bowling excursion in early […]

Winter Arrives in South Central

We had a nice Fall in South Central. The start of football season always gets me excited, although all these Michigan Wolverine fans in the area are a downer. They’ll have fun at the Capital One Bowl once again, while my Buckeyes are in another national championship. Anyway, I was a little surprised that I didn’t see more pick-up football […]

Road Work

South Central residents are happy for road work that recently took place in the area. New curbs and a fresh coating of blacktop makes the area that much more inviting for residents and visitors alike. I don’t envy the work that goes into road repair. Thanks for the effort, fellas.

Lawn Care

As my loyal readers know, we purchased a sprinkler for various reasons this past summer. It came in handy in September and October. We decided to have two crazy looking bushes taken out from the bottom of our driveway. So we needed to place some sod down and apparently you need to water sod constantly. I spent $180 to take […]

Fire House Open House

A nice time was had by all a few Saturday goes at the Wilmette Fire Department Open House. All the trucks were on display (good thing there were no fires), children got to squirt the hose, underwater gear was there to see and feel, and balloons and plastic fire hats were given to kids. We must have seen at least […]

Oktoberfest – Evening Festivities

For months we’ve heard that the Wilmette Oktoberfest was an event that could not be missed. Reality lived up to the hype. People from all across Wilmette converged on the adult portion of the day-long Oktoberfest celebration held at St. Joseph’s School and Church. (See previous post for a recap of day activities.) The evening started at a neighbor’s in […]
