Trump Sucks. But…

I went to church for the first time in a few months last Sunday – it was more emotional than usual after a sad weekend.

I’m not an overly religious man, but I believe. But more importantly, I believe in good people.

Coming off a few days of mourning and celebrating the goodness of a great man from our community, I guess it caught up with me. The opening hymn made me well up a bit –  “God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending.” (Look it up – you’ll know it.)

After that little emotional moment on Sunday, I got mad. I got mad thinking of all of the divisiveness in America and the world today. I got mad about all of the stupid rhetoric that is spit out of peoples’ mouths and broadcast or posted for all to see. I got mad at all of the unfairness that happens every single day to good people around the world who just want to live a good life.

I got mad about our friend leaving us too soon.  A good man who made his mark, not only on this community, but around the world.

I got mad because Trump sucks.

But, as church often does for me (when I go), I was lifted up a bit. I thought about all of the good that we still have in this world, especially in our little community where we raise our boys. It’s unique in it’s own way, but probably not unlike where I grew up, or any close-knit community.

People come together, because that’s what we do. We come together. We come together to celebrate. We come together to mourn. We come together to laugh and cry. We put aside our differences for the common good, and to lend a helping hand. And to provide that boost that is often needed to get past a tough time. People are good.

Sometimes it’s hard to remember that in today’s times. Or when something bad happens to good people. But then you experience goodness and you are reminded.  And hopefully, for you and me, the bad never, ever, ever overshadows the good.

Which gets me back to Trump. He sucks. He really does suck.

RIP, friend.
